The department of Special Collections is located on the 1st floor of the RJT Library. It houses public and nonpublic materials. The collection includes Traditional African Art Gallery and the Heartman Collection. The Department houses the official records of Texas Southern University, the University Archives and has collected several manuscript collections. The largest of these collections is the Barbara Jordan Archives.
